Gordon W. McKay

Gordon W. McKay, 79, of Schroeppel (Sand Ridge),
passed away on Thursday Jan. 18, 2018 at his home.
Born in Syracuse to his late parents, Ida (Pickard) and
George McKay on Oct. 26, 1938. A graduate of
Williamsville H. S., Buffalo State Univ., and Oswego
State Univ. in teaching. He was a USAF veteran
from 1956-1960. Gordon was an electrician for Allied
Chemical Co., Syracuse and a substitute teacher in
the surrounding area schools. He was an active member
and trustee for Pennellville United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Carolyn A.
(Widmer) McKay; his daughter Kimberly Ann McKay of
Portland, OR; his son Christopher G. (Amber L. (Abbott)
McKay of Phoenix; four grandchildren;; one sister, Karen
(Howard) Smith of PA; nieces and nephews.
Calling hours only on Tuesday Jan. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m.
in the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431
Main St., Phoenix, NY 13135. A Remembrance

  1. You will be missed greatly by many.. Carolyn and you opened your home and your hearts to me as a teenager… Words can not really express how appreciative I am..

  2. Our deepest sympathies and prayers to the family of this very nice man whom I clearly remember as a substitute teacher and also from his hospitality in having me over at his home while working on a class project with his son. May God be your comfort during this very tough time.
