Eileen A. King

Eileen A. King, 66, of town of Orwell, passed away on
Wednesday January 31, 2018 at her home. Born in
Potsdam, NY to her late parents, Mary E. (Agley) and
Olin John Colbert on August 3, 1951. She was a homemaker.
Besides her parents, Eileen was predeceased by her
husband of 32 years, Neil B. King on April 6, 2005; her
two brothers John Colbert and Edward Colbert; and a
sister Nancy.
Surviving are two sisters, Dawn Gilbo of Cicero, and
Mary Lou Colbert (Peter Lanno) of Phoenix, NY; her
step-children, Becky King (Jeff), Amy (Denny) Parker,
and Brian King; a step-grandchild Billy King; several
nieces and nephews.
Services are on Friday Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the First
Congregational, UCC, 43 Bridge St., Phoenix, with
Pastor Karen Marshall officiating. Calling hours are in
the church from 5 to 7:30 p.m. prior to the service.
An eventual burial in Oakwood Morningside Cemetery,
Syracuse, NY.

Nelson A. Walter

Nelson A. Walter, 67, of Phoenix, NY passed
away at home on Thursday January 25, 2018.
Born in Fulton to his late parents, Reta May
(Rawson) and Edward C. Walter, Sr. on Nov.
18, 1950. A graduate of Liverpool H. S., class
of 1968. He had been employed at N.E.T. & Die,
Inc., Fulton. Nelson was an avid golfer and
bowler, loved to pitch horseshoes, having fun with
Karaoke events, and an avid skinny dipper.
Surviving are his loving family, his wife of 47 years
Cathy A. (Eggleston) Walter; his children Kimberly A.
(Rachel) Walter, Kelly M. (Troy M.) Hess, and
Kristopher N. (Ann) Walter; nine grandchildren,
McKinzi Hess, Zachary Walter, Megan Hess,
Noah Walter, Mattison Hess, Mallory Hess, Penelope
Walter, Gabriel Walter, and Kian Walter; his three brothers
Sheldon D. “Bud”, Edward C., and Richard C; his
sister Nora Mary Howard; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are on Thursday Feb. 1, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Kevin C. Allen

Kevin C. Allen, Jr., 43, of Mexico, NY, passed away
on Monday Jan. 22, 2018. Born to Kathrine (Roscoe)
and Kevin C. Allen, Sr. on Aug. 19, 1974.
Surviving his children Nicholas Stubba, Gabriella Allen,
and Isabella Allen; his parents, Kevin and Kathrine; a
sister Katha (Wayne) Halstead; a brother Sean Kelly.
Family gathering will be at Katha’s home on Saturday
Jan. 27, 2018 at 3 p.m..

Jennie W. Brown

Jennie W. Brown, 87, of Phoenix, NY passed away
at home on Monday Jan. 22, 2018 with her family
by her side. Born in Tully, NY to her late parents.
Lillian (Kinney) and Walter H. Walberger, Sr. on
Dec. 31, 1930. She loved the birds, ducks and deer.
Pre deceased by her husband “Bim” Brown
in 2006; her grandson Daniel B. Brown, Jr. in 1996; her
brothers William, Arthur, Walter Jr., and Ellis; her sisters
Helen and Marjorie.
Surviving are her children Douglas C. (Kathy), Daniel B.
(Neicy) Sr., and Sandra (Bud) Beach; 5 grandchildren
Jen, Tammie, Matt, James, and Brian; 8 great-grandchildren;
one sister Katherine Lindley; nieces and nephews.
Graveside services only are on Friday Jan. 26, at 11:15 a.m.
in Riverview Cemetery, Baldwinsville.

Virginia Day Hoag

Virginia Day Hoag, 104, of Phoenix, NY died on Tuesday
January 16, 2018 at St. Luke Health Services, Oswego,
NY with her family by her side.

Virginia is predeceased by her loving husband, Abel A.
Hoag, who died on September 24, 1971 and a sister,
Dorothy Day Anderson who died on October 4, 1975. She
is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Joe) Henderson of
Phoenix, NY and a son, Robert (Priscilla) Hoag of Owego,
NY; two grandchildren, Elizabeth (Ken) McDonnell of San
Diego, CA and Dr. Steve (Nadine) Hoag of Phoenix, NY;
two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Alexandra Hoag; a
nephew, Richard (Lynda) Anderson of Denton, TX; a
niece, Carole (Roger) Long of Woodstock, IL; and many
grand nieces and nephews.

Born in Buffalo, NY on June 15, 1913 to her late parents,
Maud Alexander and Arthur Baum Day, she grew up in
Syracuse, graduating from Nottingham High School in 1930.
She graduated from Syracuse University in 1934 with a
degree in Business Administration. She and Abel were
married August 8, 1936. After living in Alabama and Florida
during WW II, Virginia and Abel purchased the family farm
land in Phoenix, NY in 1950. For the next 12 years, Virginia
raised her children and volunteered as a Camp Fire Girl
leader, a Cub Scout leader, and in various activities of the
United Methodist Church. She worked part-time at
Ellsworth’s Red and White grocery store. In 1962, the
family moved back to Syracuse. Virginia began a 16 year
career in the graduate school admissions department at
Syracuse University. After retiring from the university, she
returned to Phoenix and became active in The Century Club
of Phoenix Public Library and Topics Club. She was a
formidable bridge player. She also loved watching Syracuse
University football and basketball games and listening on the
radio to the Syracuse Nationals games.

A memorial service will be held in June. Contributions may
be made to in Virginia’s name to the Phoenix Public Library,
34 Elm Street, Phoenix, NY 13135.

Henry O. Jones

Henry O. Jones, 77, former Pennellville, NY resident,
passed away at Seneca Hill Manor Residential Care
facility on Friday Jan. 19, 2018. Born in Oswego County
to his late parents, Mildred Mae (Parkhurst) and Howard
L. Jones, Sr. on Dec. 22, 1940.
Henry was a roofer for Diamond Roofing Co., Syracuse.
Besides his parents, Howard Sr. passing on May 25, 1966,
and his mother, Mildred passing on Feb. 28, 2008,
he was pre deceased by his brother, James H. Jones on
Sept. 27, 1990.
Surviving are his 4 siblings Howard L. Jones, Jr, Jan (Ron)
Johst, Ada Caines, and Ronald (Patricia) Jones; several
nieces and nephews; additional family members, Anne
Jones, Richard Caines, and Betty Clute; and friends.
Calling hours are on Tuesday Jan. 23, 2018 from 10 a.m.
to noon in the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home,
431 Main St., Phoenix, NY. Immediately following the
calling hours a funeral service will commence with the
Rev. Jeff Hodge officiating. A Spring 2018 burial will
occur in the Pennellville Cemetery, Co. Rt. 54. Pennellville.

at Seneca Hill Manor Inc., Volney, for their care of Henry.

Gordon W. McKay

Gordon W. McKay, 79, of Schroeppel (Sand Ridge),
passed away on Thursday Jan. 18, 2018 at his home.
Born in Syracuse to his late parents, Ida (Pickard) and
George McKay on Oct. 26, 1938. A graduate of
Williamsville H. S., Buffalo State Univ., and Oswego
State Univ. in teaching. He was a USAF veteran
from 1956-1960. Gordon was an electrician for Allied
Chemical Co., Syracuse and a substitute teacher in
the surrounding area schools. He was an active member
and trustee for Pennellville United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Carolyn A.
(Widmer) McKay; his daughter Kimberly Ann McKay of
Portland, OR; his son Christopher G. (Amber L. (Abbott)
McKay of Phoenix; four grandchildren;; one sister, Karen
(Howard) Smith of PA; nieces and nephews.
