Marty J. Race

Marty J. Race, 68, of State Rt. 48, Granby (Fulton),
NY passed away at University Hospital on Friday
Nov. 10, 2017. Born to his mother Helen (Weber)
and his late father, Martin R. Race on Feb. 9, 1949
in Syracuse, NY. He was U S Marine Corps Veteran
serving from 1969-1971. Marty was a self employed
roofing and painting contractor.
An avid hunter, fisherman and bowler.
Besides his father he was predeceased by his brother
Surviving are his loving wife of 46 years, Louise (Markham)
Race; his children Lance (Tina) Race, Sonya Jones
(Toby Bushnoe), Heather Race, Cherri Race, Scott (Cathy)
Race; his mother Helen (Weber) Race; his siblings Helen
Mae Colby, Doreen Race, and Donald (Sherry) Race; 15
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Joyce E. Godfrey

Joyce E. Godfrey, 87, of Pennellville, NY, passed away
peacefully on Wednesday November 8, 2017 surrounded
by her loving family. Born in Phoenix, NY to her late parents,
Julia Olive (Teachout) and Asa G. Candee on Dec. 14, 1929.
She grew up in Pennellville, NY and is a graduate of Phoenix
High School, class of 1948. She was employed by Miller
Brewing Co., Volney, NY.

Joyce was an active member of Pennellville United Methodist
Church, serving as Trustee, Merry’s Stitchers, and other
church activities. Among many other interests, Joyce
was a member of the Red Hat Society. Most importantly,
she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Predeceased by her son James in 2017; her brothers Lynn,
Wilson, and Milton.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, John
C. Godfrey; her son David Godfrey (Marianne Gillette);
her daughter Karen (Henry) Fuller all of Pennellville; her
grandchildren Dana Godfrey (Matthew Brophy), Gregory
Reynolds (Danielle Szulanski), Daimon (Valarie)
Oberholtzer, and Danielle Oberholtzer; three great-grand
children; her daughter-in-law Tonya Godfrey of Tully; her
brother Irving Candee of Baldwinsville; her sister Marjorie
(Bill) Godfrey of Pennellville; several nieces, nephews,
and cousins.

Calling hours are on Monday Nov. 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. at
the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main
St., Phoenix, NY. A Funeral Service in celebration of Joyce’s
life will be held on Tuesday Nov. 14, at 12 noon in the
Pennellville United Methodist Church, 385 Co. Rt. 54,
Pennellville, with the Rev. Jeff Hodge officiating. Burial
to follow in Pennellville Cemetery on Co. Rt. 54, Pennellville.

Robert H. Jarvis

Robert H. Jarvis, 90, passed away peacefully on
November 6, 2017, with his family at his bedside.
He leaves a loving wife of 66 years, Nanette (Archambo)
Jarvis; his sons Robert (Cathy) of Farmington, CT, and
Richard of Baldwinsville, NY; grandchildren Robert and
Blaire of Denver, CO, and Clayton and Brooke of
Baldwinsville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was born and raised in Pennellville to Harold and
Doris (Potter) on May 4, 1927. He is predeceased by
his parents and his brother Paul.
Bob served proudly in the United States Army Occupation
Forces in Germany in 1945. He was a member of VFW
Post 5540 in Phoenix. Following his discharge from the
Army, he began a 43 year career with Sealright Co.
(Huhtamaki) in Fulton, NY, retiring in 1990.
Bob was an avid golfer as well as a founding and lifelong
member of Beaver Meadows Golf Club, Phoenix, NY
where he served as president and was active on the
Board of Directors for many years. Beaver Meadows
was a tremendous passion , as were his grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral
Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix, on Friday November 10 th
from 4 to 7 p.m.. Funeral services will be held at the
funeral home on Saturday November 11th at 10 a.m..
Words cannot express our appreciation for the staff and
administration at Syracuse Home Association of Baldwinsville
for the tremendous care and compassion shown our
father the past three years, as well as the friendship and
comfort they provided our mother each day.

Robert T. O’Connell

Robert T. O’Connell, 58, ” D. J. Bob”, of Phoenix, NY passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday Nov. 7, 2017. Born in Syracuse, NY to his late parents, Betty (Burton) and Robert E. O’Connell on Feb. 1, 1959. He was a graduate of J. C. Birdlebough High School, class of 1978, Phoenix, NY.

Bob was a heavy equipment operator for the Dept. of Transportation, Onondaga County, and had retired. He affectionately known as ” D. J. Bob” due to his part time job. Thus he was an avid music and collector of DVDs. A hugh Oakland Raiders fan as well. Bob adored his
grandchildren Karly and Robert and was their primary babysitter.

Surviving are his loving wife of 15 years, Judy Turner;
his son Michael (Samantha) O’Connell; his grandchildren
Karly and Robert; his step-son Jacob (Britany) Dievendorf,
and Annie Dievendorf.

Calling hours are on Sunday Nov. 12, from 2 to 6 p.m.
in the Pennellville United Methodist Church, 385 Co. Rt.
54, Pennellville. A celebration of his life will be on Monday
Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. in the church sanctuary with the Rev.
Jeff Hodge officiating.

Nora E. Oja, 94, former Pennellville resident
passed away at her daughter, Emma’s home in
Lockport, NY on Sunday Nov. 5, 2017. More
information will follow in an updated obiturary.

Calling hours will be on Thursday Nov. 9, from
2 to 7 p.m., with a funeral service at 10 a.m. on
Friday Nov.10, with the Rev. Jeff Hodge officiating.
