Romona Arlene Deuty Rogers, died on 4/30/2015 at the age of 72. Born on
5/6/1942 in Phoenix, NY, she graduated from John C. Birdlebough High School
in 1960. Years later, she completed an associate’s degree from the Rochester
Institute of Technology.
Her long and varied career included work as a beautician, medical assistant,
data entry clerk, and a claims processor. She retired from National Grid
(Niagara Mohawk), in NY, but went on to work part time for several more years
at the Virginia Employment Commission in Hampton, VA. She was one of the
first female firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians in Enterprise
Fire Company No. 1, Phoenix, NY. She was actively involved in scouting and
sports with her sons.
Her pastimes included: gardening, camping, puzzles, cooking, and watching
Wheel of Fortune. She loved music, especially of her nephew, Randy DeVore
and of Herb Reed’s Platters. Her greatest passions were helping people,
spending time with friends, and doting over her family.
She was preceded in death by her father; William Deuty, her mother; Lillian
Deuty; brothers, Carlton VanEpps, Harold VanEpps, Bob Deuty; sisters, Doris
DeVore, and Kate Hotaling; first husband Gene Grifin, and third husband,
She is survived by her sister, Dawn Deuty Perry of Fredericksburg, VA; sons,
Michael Wade Lynk (Lisa) of Hampton, VA, and John Henry Lynk (Michelle
Bramble) of Salisbury, MD; eight grandchildren; and numerous cousins,
nieces, and nephews.
Even in death, she continues serving others via her choice to donate her body
to the Anatomy Gifts Registry for the advancement of medical science. An
informal, come as you are, celebration of life is planned for Friday 5/15/2015
from 6 to 8 p.m. in the front lobby of Northside Christian Church at 1300 George
Washington Highway in Yorktown, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages
friends to make donations in her memory to: Northside Christian Church of
Yorktown, VA or the Enterprise Fire Co., No. 1, of Phoenix, NY.
