Paul Myron FieldsPaul Myron Fields, 76, of Palermo, NY passed away in Lakeland, FL on Tuesday December 18, 2012. Born in Phoenix, NY to his late parents, Gertrude Ruth (Letson) and Earl Franklin Fields on August 31, 1936. He attended Phoenix High School. Paul was a career military man, beginning in 1954, and continuing for over the next 20 years. He served for 12 years in the USMC, with two completed tours of duty in Vietnam, and one proud Vietnam Veteran! He then entered the USAF, for eight years, stationed in Germany as well as stateside, as an instructor for pilots in Tenn., and onto Griffiss AFB, Rome, NY where he retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. Paul was stationed in several military bases of the service throughout the world. Later, Paul went onto retire from a second career as a maintenance engineer for Mexico Academy & Central Schools. He was a former president of the CSEA Union, Local 1000. Paul was a life member of the Phoenix Memorial Post 5540, VFW and was a post commander from 1995-96, and a mem ber of its active Honor Guard Squad for over 25 years. He served on many committees, including the parade committee and was a marching participant in numerous Memorial Day Parades. He was a high ranking member of the Oswego County Council. Predeceased by his five brothers, Ralph, Robert, George, Willis, and Charles; his four sisters, Virginia, Vera, Elaine, and Leona; one nephew Brian, one niece Julie. Surviving are his children, Kathy A. Violante of Clinton, NY, Susan F. (John) Collea of New Hartford, NY, and Paul F. (Patty) Fields of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; two brothers, James Fields of Pennellville, and Gary (Chris) Fields of Phoenix; three grandchildren, Joshua, Trishia, and Amanda; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be on Friday January 4, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Allan son-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, Phoenix. Services will be the very next day, Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, 431 Main St., with the Rev. Diane Bradshaw officiating. Burial with military honors including the VFW 5540 squad, will be in Phoenix Rural Cemetery, 126 Chestnut St., Phoenix.   1. I my heart is heavy as another Fields gets his wings… You have gone to join the gang in heaven, but you will not be forgotten. You have left your mark with in all of us. My serene condolences to Kathy, Paul and Susan, and the Fields family.
